Tips on making your child a reader

Babble.com had a great article today on parent-child reading clubs as a way to encourage your child to love reading. What better way than surrounding your child with a number of adult role models who are passionate about reading. You can read the tips on how to get started here.

Our advice is to also schedule some time for children to play and the parents to discuss some of the teachable moments, conversation starters and important themes in the book. Children's literature can be laden with valuable takeaways especially if frames correctly. Children preparing for classroom work, the ISEE or SSAT reading comprehension section of the WISC must be used to discussing themes in passages. Set aside time to brainstorm with other parents on ways to discuss major literary themes with your children
