When should your child take the ERB?

Test dates matter – especially for the ERB. While some tests compare children to students with their age bracket over a year or a few years, the ERB as given in New York City compares students who are within a three-month (for children under 6) or a four-month (ages 6-7) age bracket.

Children show measurable development in just months – especially at a yearly age, so choose a date where your child’s age will be nearest the oldest age in his or her age bracket.

Use our age calculator.

There may be some other considerations when picking a time:

  • School deadlines: If the school that you are applying to has a set deadline for when it needs the report, be sure to factor that into your decision when to schedule the test.
  • Comfortable location: If your child has the opportunity to take the test in a place they are familiar with it may be preferable to an ideal date in an unknown location.
